I’m in my mid twenties. OK, closer to thirty…but who’s counting?! I spent quite a few years of my life in school. I had intended to come out of it a bona fide nurse.
After a LONG story (of which I’ll spare you the details…at least for now!) and many financial constraints, I was not able to finish nursing school. I hope to one day complete it, but I’m in the process of saving and that may take a while.
So what could I do with a semi complete nursing education? No hospital in their right mind would give me a nursing job without it completed! I had considered becoming a tech, but it felt like rubbing salt in the wound.
I decided to put my knowledge to use in the world of medical coding. It’s not quite as pressure filled or action packed…but it has served me quite well and is rewarding in other ways.
One problem I had when entering the field was finding accurate salary information all in one place. We all love to make a difference and want a job that means something, but without a decent salary we can’t survive.
